September 21st at 8:30pm
Daddy Issues
An exploration of the relationship to my hands, and the hands they resemble - my father’s. A tutorial on how to make a flour tortilla. A summoning of estranged ancestors.
Inspired by an original short story “I Am My Own Abuela”.
Created and Performed by Sarah Gallegos
Esclavo y Amo
Performer Christopher Cortez embraces the legacy of Mexican Culture's influence of classic "romantica" music through dance and costume. Combining modern and contemporary dance styles to tell the story of a man who has fallen hopelessly in love. He will perform a solo, as his choreographic NYC debut, as testament and tribute to this timeless era of music that was influenced by his grandparents.

Huapango Veracruzano
Mexica Danza Folklorica is debuting for the first time at MeXfest: Huapango Veracruzano as part of their “Al Son Huasteca, A Celebration of Huapangos” production. Huapango Huasteco hails from the Huasteca region of northeastern Mexico, stretching along six states: Tamaulipas, Queretaro, Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo and San Luis Potosi. Huapangos has close indigenous roots and continues to be part of a tradition that has survived for many years. Our goal is to celebrate the diversity of Mexico as well in NYC and bring a piece of Mexico to those who feel too far away from home. Sharing the stage with live music Trio Afortunado Huasteco from NYC.
Raul Lopez: Artistic Director/Dancer/Choreographer/ Costumes
Juan Carlos Sanchez Pecero: Huasteca Teacher from Panuco Veracruz, Mexico
