Double-Bill: <de>const.tru.y.END//o and #CoffeeStories

<de>const.tru.y.END//o

Join us for an immersive experience with Arantxa Araujo’s new performance and installation, <de>const.tru.y.END//o, debuting in 2024. This transformative event features a striking stage illuminated by 39 unique monstrance-like objects, each serving as an altar to honor life and embodying the beauty and impermanence symbolized by the cempasuchil flower within.

Over the span of 39 minutes—one minute for each year of Araujo’s life—witness a powerful act of deconstruction as she/they dismantle these objects, liberating the flowers and leaving behind a poignant statement of self-liberation. Accompanied by a captivating soundscape crafted by sound artist Mariana Uribe, the performance begins with a lullaby and evolves through melodies reflecting childhood, religion, rebellion, liberation, and peace, mirroring the journey of life itself.

Araujo’s work dives deep into the cultural influences stemming from historical legacies of colonization, critically examining how these forces have shaped contemporary practices, especially the dominance of Catholicism in contrast to the rich spiritual traditions of the Aztecs and Mayans. Through her artistry, she explores the ongoing impacts of globalization and U.S. influence on Mexican culture, inviting audiences to engage with their own narratives of identity and cultural expression.

Prepare for a thought-provoking journey that encourages introspection and challenges preconceived notions. Discover the authentic self within the wreckage and join the dialogue surrounding the complex interactions that shape our cultural landscapes. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience <de>const.tru.y.END//o—a performance that promises to resonate long after the final note fades.

#CoffeeStories

written and performed by Pancho Lopez

For several years, Pancho Lopez has been exploring the Italian coffee press, engaging in daily exercises that focus on building relationships with others. As a performance artist captivated by the nuances of everyday life and human emotion, Lopez investigates how these experiences translate into artistic expression. His work thoughtfully examines ordinary activities, such as sharing a meal or enjoying a cup of coffee, and delves into the intricacies of conversation and movement in our daily routines.
