About the Show
Elephant Dance is a collection of people and movement art based in New York City. It is a collective led by Mary Ellen Carafice that explores dance, movement, and choreography that is socially relevant, creatively expressive, and visually memorable.
About the Director
Mary Ellen Carafice is a Brooklyn based Dancer and Choreographer. Hailing from Rochester, NY, Carafice holds an AS in Social and Behavioral Science and a BA Dance from Hunter College. Carafice has performed works by Ivy Baldwin, Monica Bill Barnes, Yoshiko Chuma, Mariangela Lopez, Kendra Portier, Alwin Nikolais, The No Collective, and Melissa West and has recently traveled to Australia and Argentina to study with Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin, Al Wunder and Biblioteca Popular Juventud Moderna, respectively. She is a Gilman Award Recipient and was a teaching artist for Council on the Arts and Humanities of Staten Island April 2013 programming at The Curiosity Project.
