An original play, combining historical events and fiction, that traces the secret history of the artists and intellectuals that inspired the European revolutions of the 18th century, from their crazy and passionate visions of national independence to their personal betrayals.
FILIKI ETERIA was created for the Cultural Foundation of Piraeus Group (PIOP) in honor of the 200 year anniversary of the Greek revolution, and was previously presented in the summer of 2021 at the nine Museums of the PIOP Network, at the Historical Archive of PIOP, at the Aeschylia Festival, and at the historic Skopeftirio in Kaissariani.

IOLI ANDREADI
DIRECTOR & CO-WRITER
Ioli Andreadi is a theatre and performance director, playwright, and Dr. (King’s College London). From 2003 she has worked in Greece and abroad (UK, New York, Berlin, Rome). She studied Directing at RADA in 2007-08. Her PhD in Theatre, Performance and Ritual at King’s College London was conducted with the support of the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation and was subsequently published in English in 2020 by Kapa Publishing House under the title: Anastenaria: Ritual, Theatre, Performance; An Experiential Study. She is a 2010/11 Fulbright Artist/Arts Scholar, having conducted her research on musical theatre and ancient tragedy in NY (NYMF). She is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Director’s Lab as a Stavros Niarchos Foundation grantee. Her ongoing postdoctoral research on Antonin Artaud and Neuroscience (2015-today) is soon to be published. She is teaching Performance: Theory and Practice (her book Performance: Theory and Practice; Directing, Philosophy and Culture was published in 2020) as a Guest Lecturer at Universities in Greece and abroad (University of Athens, University of Cyprus, King’s College London, Brooklyn College CUNY, University of Greenwich UK).
With Aris Asproulis, Ioli has co-authored 13 theatrical texts (original and adaptations) from 2015 until today, which have been staged in Greece, New York and London, directed by her and having received excellent reviews. They specialize in creating original theatrical works, based on the study of real events, through research of primary archival material; documents and publications; interviews; books; field work. They also share a deep interest in the Classics (literature, theatre, art), having adopted for the stage a three-hour version of Tolstoy’s War and Peace and a two-hour version of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Their work also include three new plays on the life and work of Antonin Artaud: Artaud/Van Gogh, The Cenci Family and Bone. All their plays have been published by Kapa Publishing House.
ARIS ASPROULIS
CO-WRITER
Aris Asproulis is a Dr. of Sociology at Panteion University, playwright and the Director of Communication & Publicity of the historic Art Theater Karolos Koun. From 2006 Aris has worked as a publicist of both major and experimental theatre and cultural events, national and international, in Greece. He is teaching Sociology as a Guest Lecturer in Greece and abroad (Panteion University, University of Durham) and Communication and Publicity at ARTENS SEMINARS.
With Ioli Andreadi, Aris has co-authored 13 theatrical texts (original and adaptations) from 2015 until today, which have been staged in Greece, New York and London, directed by Ioli Andreadi and having received excellent reviews. MILTIADIS FIORENTZIS
EMMANOUIL XANTHOS
Born and raised in Athens, Greece. Trained as an actor at Greek Art Theatre Drama School and at London School of Physical Theatre. His work in theatre includes leading roles in plays by William Shakespeare, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Moliere, Fernando Pessoa, Antonin Artaud, Manuel Puig, Georg Buchner, Athol Fugard, Franz Kafka, August Strindberg, Albert Camus, Sergio Blanco, Jean Genet, Sophocles, Aeschylus and many others. He has performed in theatres all over the world including China, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. He also works as a Speech and Performance Coach in Greece and Cyprus.
VASSILIKI TROUFAKOU
NARRATOR / NIKOLAOS SKOUFAS / HELLAS
Vassiliki Troufakou is a stage and film actress. born and based in Greece, who enjoys acting on stage and appearing on film, equally. She graduated from the National Drama School of Greece in Athens and in her 10 years of experience she has played roles both of contemporary and classic repertoire, including leading roles and performances for the National Theatre of Greece. She has a special love for ancient Greek tragedies and has performed on multiple occasions on the ancient theatre of Epidaurus and in open ancient theatres across Greece. In 2016 she received the Greek Academy Award for best actress for the film “Ouzeri Tsitsanis”( dir. M. Manousakis). With an ardent passion for science, Vassiliki also graduated from the National Technical University of Greece (N.T.U.A) and as of 2021 is a certified civil engineer.
NIKOLAS KARAGIAOURIS
ATHANASIOS TSAKALOF
Born and raised in Patras, Greece. Trained at Athens Conservatoire as an actor and an opera singer. His theatre and opera work includes collaborations with Vienna State Opera, Salle Cortot in Paris, Greek National Opera, Megaron Athens Concert Hall, Onassis Cultural Centre and Greek National Theatre, performing leading roles in The Bat, Acis and Galatea, Hensel and Gretel, Carmen, Barber of Seville, Cosi fan tutte, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Madame Butterfly, etc. He has also performed leading roles in musicals including Moby Dick, The Beauty and the Beast, The steadfast tin soldier and Clara Schumann. He has been awarded in international music competitions in London, Bayroit, Salonica and Athens.
DESPOINA SARAFEIDOU
ALEXANDROS YPSILANTIS
Despoina Sarafeidou is an actor and translator. She has performed in numerous plays from both the classical and contemporary repertoire, in Greece and abroad, and was most recently in Samuel Beckett’s The Calmative (Fournos Theatre, Athens). In 2011, she founded her own theatre company, 1+1=1, and has produced seven original works. As an actor and assistant director, she has worked with Mabou Mines director Lee Breuer in Boston and New York, and acclaimed Greek director Roula Pateraki. Film work includes A Touch of Spice, Jaguar, and The Wedding List. She has collaborated with composers/musicians such as Ross Daly, Kyriakos Kalaitzidis, and Eve Beglarian in multicultural performances in Greece, the UK, and the United States. She has also translated French, Spanish, and English theatre, literature, anthropology, and psychoanalysis. She has written plays and adaptations, which have been produced in Greece and New York (La Mama). Sarafeidou is a graduate of Athens State University in philosophy and psychology and a member of the International Theatre Institute. She won the Karolos Koun 2018 Best Actor Award for the role of Sarah in The Sacrifice of Abraham. She received the Leading Female Role Award (Apollon International Theatre Festival, 2011), Actor of Europe Award (Actor of Europe Theatre Festival, 2012), and Best Performance in a Transgender Role Award (3rd Queer Theatre Awards, 2014) for her performance in the one-woman show Kassandra (by Sergio Blanco), which she performed in 20 festivals throughout Europe and the United States. She collaborated with Ioli Andreadi and Aris Asproulis In Memory of a Young Child (2019) and is happy to be working with them again.
DIMITRA LIAKOURA
SET & COSTUME DESIGN
Born and raised in Corinth, Greece. She studied theatre theory in National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed her MA in Design for Performance and Practice in Central Saint Martins College, London. She has participated in numerous performances as a scenographer and costume designer, in various theatre stages and venues including National Theatre of Greece, Onassis Cultural Foundation (Stegi), Greek Festival, Michalis Cacoyiannis Foundation, Theatre of Art, Karolos Koun etc. She also works as a production designer & costume designer for cinema. She was the costume designer for feature film
”Apples” which opened the 77th Cinema Biennale of Venice (Category Orizzonti) with executive producer Cate Blanchett. She has participated in group exhibitions with performances and artworks and lately she is involved in curation too. She is doing her phD on the Dramaturgy of Colors, Theatre Studies University, Nafplio.
EMMANUELA LIA
TRANSLATOR
Emmanuela trained as an actress at Veaki Drama School (GR), Stella Adler Studio of Acting (NY) and BSA (UK). She has been speaking English since the age of nine and fell into translation quite late. Having taken a few masterclasses with distinguished Theatre translators in London, her translations have been shortlisted for The Eurodram competition, she has been published in Greece by Vakxikon Publications and for the Tank Theatre she has translated the surtitles of ‘When We Went Electronic’, from English to Greek, when the production travelled to Athens. Emmanuela is currently based in London UK.
STEVI KOUTSOTHANASSI
LIGHTING DESIGN
Born and based in Athens. Studied Theatre Studies and works as light designer for theatre, concerts and events. Until today she’s been part of more than 40 theatre productions in Greece and Europe (some of them selectively): Greek Art Theatre, Athens Festival, National Opera of Greece, Epidaurus Festival, Athens Concert Hall, Documenta 14, Piraeus Municipal Theatre, Ancient Theatre of Philippi, Ancient theatre of Kourion, ADD festival, ElaiΩnas Festival, and many theatres in Athens, Le central de Circ (Spain), Peculiar Families Festival (Croatia), Berlin Circus Festival.
PENELOPE ASLANOGLOU
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Born in Athens and raised in the art-steeped cultural setting of Syros island, Penelope is a multi-faceted professional that focuses on the visual identity of spaces, places and people, as well as the creative interpretation of their personas and idiosyncrasies. She holds a BA Hons in Interior Design from Middlesex University, carrying out unique interior design projects since 2003 and she has completed a Set Design Workshop at AKTO Art & Design College. She works in the field of theater productions since 2006 and is an active member of the Greek Theatre Designers Association. She has conceived and brought to life the sets and costumes in varied plays, several of which have been hosted in international festivals and over 15 of them staged in the historic “Apollon” Theater of Syros. As a creative collaborator in theater and animation festivals, her vocabulary has been enriched in a multitude of ways and her quest to enter each director’s unique vision always finds new and challenging grounds to grow. A constant urge to look behind the obvious, and to read between the lines, led her to the creative playground of this play.
ORESTIS TATSIS
PRODUCTION MANAGER
He was born in Ioannina, Greece. He studied in the department of Philosophy, Education and Psychology in the university of Ioannina. He got his master degree in cultural management from Panteion University. He has held several seminars and has taught Philosophy and Theatre History in Patra’s municipal drama school. He has been the director in the following performances: “The tootsie” by D. Tsekouras, “Madame de Sade” by Yukio Mishima, “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell” by Federico García Lorca, “The decay” by D. Tsekouras, “Terminal Station” by C. Tzamiotis, “Exiles in Athens” based on the novel “Crisis” by Arkadios Leykos, “The tree that loved” by theatrical group ViDa, “The Castle” by Franz Kafka. He is the dramaturgy advisor and longtime collaborator of dancing company “Creo” and artistic director of the theatrical company “Reon”. He has been an assistant director of D. Giannakopoulos, V. Nikolaidis, A. Adipas. His articles on theatre, literature politics, art etc have been published in several magazines, newspapers and online. He is a member of the editorial board and a columnist in the artistic magazine “to Erma”.
