PANEL: Dramaturgy as an Act of Revolution

Join us on April 23, 2022 for a post show discussion about Dramaturgy and how it can serve as an act of revolution, facilitated by Tank Artist Caitlin Saylor Stephens. Filiki Eteria co-writer and director Ioli Andreadi, co-writer Aris Asproulis, and theater maker and Brooklyn College professor Laura Tesman will discuss the play and its dramaturgical relevancy. Please remain in the theater following the evening’s performance.

Panelists

CAITLIN SAYLOR STEPHENS
Caitlin  is a Brooklyn-based playwright. Her play When We Went Electronic (dir. Meghan Finn) was produced by The Tank in 2018. The production toured in Athens, Milan, and Rome last year at festivals. Caitlin is the recipient of a 2021 EST/Sloan Project Commission, a 2022 NYSCA Individual Artist Grant, and a NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music, and Theatre Grant for her play Modern Swimwear, which will be produced at The Tank next year. Caitlin is currently under commission with Lincoln Center Theater where she is an artist-in-residence.

Aris Asproulis

Aris Asproulis is a Dr. of Sociology (Panteion University) playwright and Director of Communications & Publicity of the historic Art Theater Karolos Koun. Since 2006, Aris has worked as a publicist for both major and experimental theatre and cultural events, national and international, in Greece. He teaches Sociology as a Guest Lecturer in Greece and abroad (Panteion University, University of Durham) and Communication and Publicity at ARTENS SEMINARS. With Ioli Andreadi, he has co-authored 13 theatrical texts (original and adaptations) from 2015 until today, which have been staged in Greece, New York and London, directed by Ioli Andreadi, which have received excellent reviews. They specialize in creating original theatrical works based on the study of real events, through research of primary archival material, documents and publications, interviews, books, and field work. They also share a deep interest in the Classics (literature, theatre, art), having adapted a three-hour theatrical version of Tolstoy’s War and Peace and a two-hour version of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Their work also includes three new plays on the life and work of Antonin Artaud: Artaud/Van Gogh, The Cenci Family and Bone. All their plays have been published by Kapa Publishing House.


Ioli Andreadi
Ioli Andreadi, is a theatre and performance director, playwright, Dr. King’s College London. Since 2003, she has worked in Greece and abroad (UK, New York, Berlin, Rome). She studied Directing at RADA in 2007-08. Her PhD in Theatre, Performance and Ritual at King’s College London was conducted with the support of the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation and was subsequently published in English in 2020 by Kapa Publishing House under the title: Anastenaria: Ritual, Theatre, Performance; An Experiential Study. She is a 2010/11 Fulbright Artist/Arts Scholar, having conducted her research on musical theatre and ancient tragedy in NY (NYMF). She is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Director’s Lab as a Stavros Niarchos Foundation grantee. Her ongoing postdoctoral research on Antonin Artaud and Neuroscience (2015-today) is soon to be published. She teaches Performance: Theory and Practice (her book Performance: Theory and Practice; Directing, Philosophy and Culture was published in 2020) as a Guest Lecturer at Universities in Greece and abroad (University of Athens, University of Cyprus, King’s College London, Brooklyn College CUNY, University of Greenwich UK). MILTIADIS FIORENTZIS

Born and raised in Athens, Greece. Trained as an actor at Greek Art Theatre Drama School and at London School of Physical Theatre. His work in theatre includes leading roles in plays by William Shakespeare, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Moliere, Fernando Pessoa, Antonin Artaud, Manuel Puig, Georg Buchner, Athol Fugard, Franz Kafka, August Strindberg, Albert Camus, Sergio Blanco, Jean Genet, Sophocles, Aeschylus and many others. He has performed in theatres all over the world including China, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. He also works as a Speech and Performance Coach in Greece and Cyprus.


VASSILIKI TROUFAKOU

Vassiliki Troufakou is a stage and film actress. born and based in Greece, who enjoys acting on stage and appearing on film, equally. She graduated from the National Drama School of Greece in Athens and in her 10 years of experience she has played roles both of contemporary and classic repertoire, including leading roles and performances for the National Theatre of Greece. She has a special love for ancient Greek tragedies and has performed on multiple occasions on the ancient theatre of Epidaurus and in open ancient theatres across Greece. In 2016 she received the Greek Academy Award for best actress for the film “Ouzeri Tsitsanis”( dir. M. Manousakis). With an ardent passion for science, Vassiliki also graduated from the National Technical University of Greece (N.T.U.A) and as of 2021 is a certified civil engineer.
