FUCKABILITY

March 29, 2025 @ 3pm

A performance about intimacy, skinny privilege, and the patriarchal hatred towards female-presenting bodies taking up space by Julia Prechsl. FUCKABILITY is a two-person show created by German theatre director Julia Prechsl (she/her) in collaboration with the German-Danish dancer and choreographer Chris-Pascal Englund Braun (he/him) that combines the craft of theatre, performance, dance, and stream-of-consciousness comedy. It is based on Julia’s experiences in a larger cis-female body and the forms of discrimination experienced by larger-sized FLINTA individuals as a broader societal phenomenon. Drawing from personal anecdotes, critical theory, stand-up performances, contemporary dance, and performance practices, Julia and Chris strive to create a multi-layered, visceral theatrical experience.

Julia Prechsl has worked as a theatre director within German theater for the last ten years and created over 35 critically acclaimed, professional productions. She is an alumni of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab of 2017. Her work as a theatre director focuses on interhuman relations and our constant desire to share life with another whilst overcoming the challenges of connection. Her productions circle around elevating emotions into cinematic, abstract pictures and scenes that become larger than life. She experiments with classics as well as new works, often writing her own adaptations of well-known literature with a feminist approach. She believes in the concurrency of life and theatre as the medium to talk about the complexity of it. She aims to expand her artistic practice with this project through the lens of a performer. FUCKABILITY will be her (NYC) performing debut.

Chris-Pascal Englund Braun is a dancer, choreographer, actor, and lecturer. In 2017, he completed his dance training at the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance and soon after began teaching and choreographing there regularly. Chris views dance as a form of interpersonal communication and a medium for abstract storytelling. In his work, he seeks to merge physicality, emotionality, and theatricality. His works are rooted in his fascination for non-verbal and non-linear performances, speaking to the audience on an emotional and relatable level. His latest piece, Overtime, won the Audience Award at the HIER = JETZT 2024 dance festival.
