DREYFUS IN REHEARSAL AGAIN
May 29th - June 3rd
Yonatan Esterkin - Director
Thalia Ranjbar - Associate Director
Jill Ohayon - Creative Producer
A contemporary NYC theater company is rehearsing the French comedy classic by Jean-Claude Grumberg about a group of amateur Jewish actors in Vilna in 1931 who are rehearsing a play about the Dreyfus Affair — the political scandal in which a Jewish French army officer was falsely accused of treason in 1894.
As rehearsals progress, arguments start erupting about identity, politics, art, casting, history, and who gets to tell whose story.
Funny, chaotic, sharp, and uncomfortably current.
Special guest appearance by renowned French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy on closing night (June 3rd).
