About freek: Malik "the freek" Sanders (Black Male, 30s) is a hustling comedian on the come-up. He strikes up a friendship with a younger on-the-rise comedian, Dave Sanders (white male, 20s, no relation). Malik performs an edgy, polarizing joke that Dave steals and performs himself, and they both get cancelled--but Malik gets cancelled harder. Dave is able to fully recover while Malik is left with nothing. Dave is even able to book a comedy special--Malik's dream.
Actor/Writer and Creative Producer Josh C. Thomas will play the role of Malik.
Why freek: freek is a piece that explores cancel culture and addresses inequality/inequity in America--within the context of a drag-out comedian beef. freek is intended to be a wild ride that leaves audiences on the edge of their seats, but is most importantly a provocative, thought-evoking piece that will leave audiences ready to continue the conversation well after they leave the theatre.
