Dependence Day is a comedy that explores what healing from addiction in a Black family looks like. It offers a universal lens into a Black family who is practicing belonging in their own home, while still pursuing their passions, and discovering their power and individual purposes. This play asks two questions: What is the meaning of Legacy, and where are the opportunities for the family to grow past what they feel may be expected of them? This is a work of fiction, based on the stories of Brown's family members, and has been in development since 2019. There will be a talkback after the reading.
Content Warnings: Emotional abuse, references to the loss of a loved one, religious topics, racial slurs and medical drug addiction
