About The Show
Based on the salacious off-and-on screen personalities of the 1966 hit film, “GEORGE/MARTHA” imagines what might have happened if famed improviser and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” director Mike Nichols had introduced Taylor and Burton to the world of comedy improvisation.
Jason Specland plays Richard Burton as George, and Adrian Sexton plays Elizabeth Taylor as Martha. The audience has a role, too: They play the part of the guests who have stumbled into the middle of their cutting fun and games. What can’t George and Martha talk about this time? A blender? A pineapple? A fondue pot? Only the audience knows for sure.
GEORGE/MARTHA: Fun and games. Truth and illusion. No script.
About The Actors
Jason Specland (Richard Burton as George)
Jason Specland has been performing improv for over 20 years. Growing up in South Florida, he was a member of Comics Anonymous and ComedySportz, Ft. Lauderdale. He attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he was the director of the No Parking Players, and is the inaugural member of the NPP Hall of Fame. Thanks to inspiration from Andy Richter (yes, really) he moved to New York City and studied at Upright Citizens Brigade with Armando Diaz, Ian Roberts, Amy Poehler, and Ali Farahnakian. At UCB, he was a member of a very short-lived Harold team called “Pole Position.” At the PIT, Jason has performed with house teams Watson, Technicolor, 1-800-LONDON, and Regina, with musical house teams East Side Orphan Riot, Punchbowl, and Slick Zombie, as well as special events like The Improvised Opera, William Shakespeare’s Star Wars, and Clanging with Dion Flynn (Late Night/The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) and Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother). In addition to performing GEORGE/MARTHA, he is currently a member of the Regency-era improv troupe, The Austen Family Improv Players.
Adrian Sexton (Elizabeth Taylor as Martha)
Adrian Sexton is an improvisor, actor, writer, and singer from Melrose, Massachusetts. Old Hollywood has always fascinated Adrian, and she is delighted to honor Elizabeth Taylor in one of her most iconic roles. You can see Adrian with her PIT House Team Poor Melissa; other indie teams include The Austen Family Players (NYC Improv Fest, Boston Comedy Arts Festival, Charm City Festival-Baltimore, Pittsburgh Comedy Festival), and The Darklings. Adrian is also a member of the successful Unauthorized the Musical! series at the PIT and is a co-host of Underground Cabaret.
