About The Show

NEC SPE / NEC METU (without hope / without fear) is a collection of two dovetailing monodramas. NEC SPE follows the life and crimes of the great Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. He stumbles onto the stage just after his recent death, and confusedly addresses the audience as if they are a priest absolving him of his sins. NEC METU is about the life of the great Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, a follower of Caravaggio who struggles with the fact that her legacy is eclipsed by her public and humiliating rape trial.
