Monologues Pt. I

Los niños perdidos
Sandra Gumuzzio
Based on Valeria Luiselli’s work with migrant children, this documentary monologue follows the questions that shape their futures. Personal testimony brings us closer to the journeys of children who cross the U.S. border alone.

Worth The Wait
Nicco Diaz
Spoken word, stand-up, and Afro-Caribbean-inspired live music come together in a celebration of identity and self-worth. Through a queer Afro-Nuyorican perspective from the Bronx, humor and poetry explore belonging, body image, and the joy of taking up space.

Estrellada Siempre Fui (Homenaje a Tita Merello)
Mariana Buoninconti
The spirit of Tita Merello comes alive through memories, humor, and music. Inspired by the life of the Argentine tango, film, and theater icon, this monologue explores her fierce character, her loves, and her bond with Buenos Aires.

Body in Transit
Camila Barra
A woman leaves the South and migrates for love, carrying her homeland with her. Through humor and memory, this intimate piece explores the space between what we leave behind and what we are still learning to call home.

Cuatriboliao
César Cova
A quick-witted street vendor from Caracas turns every sale into a story and every passerby into an audience. Behind his humor and gift for words lies a life shaped by family, hardship, and the daily struggle to preserve his dignity.

On November 14th:

Launch Event
Celebrate the official launch of Sin Fronteras with cocktails, conversation, networking, a DJ set, and the festival presentation followed by 2 great performances:

Blind Dates Showcase
Four original pieces inspired by "Solitude", each no longer than five minutes, created on the same day by groups of up to three artists during a four-hour rehearsal block.

Monologue Showcase · Part II
The second half of the partner-theatre monologue showcase, performed in English or Spanish with bilingual supertitles.

Death by 9 to 5
Pelayo AF
An ordinary office morning becomes a darkly comic encounter with diplomatic bureaucracy. In this excerpt from a solo musical, an intern at a fictional United Nations navigates absurd rituals and power games through satire, audience participation, and song.

Something From Abroad
The Interpreter
Mary Hould
An interpreter faces police questioning, and each answer opens another question. Incorporating American Sign Language, this suspenseful solo piece invites us to look closer at language, perception, and the stories we think we understand.

Jhonny Sueño de Tambora
Antonio Melenciano
Music and personal memories bring us closer to Johnny Ventura, the Dominican merengue legend known as “El Caballo Mayor.” This intimate solo tribute explores the artist and the person through the performer’s own encounters with his enduring legacy.

Dreaming My Reality
Andres Gallardo Bustillo
Inside an immigration detention center, a young child, represented by a puppet, finds a new friend through storytelling. Memories and dreams intertwine in a magical-realist piece that centers the immigrant experience and the power of human connection.
