Off to On
Monday, August 18 @ 7pm
Choreographer/ Performer: Valkyrie Yao
Off to On examines life, death, and the cyclical nature of existence through Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, focusing on the doctrine of no-self (anatta) and the five aggregates (skandhas): form, sensation, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. It explores dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda), illustrating how all phenomena arise interdependently, leading to suffering (dukkha). Through movement and reflection, the piece meditates on profound questions: “Who am I?”, “Where do I come from?”, and “Where am I going?”. It navigates the path toward enlightenment (bodhi) and liberation (nirvana), inviting audiences to engage with impermanence, identity, and spiritual awakening.
