“Obsession” explores the agonies of creation and perfection of art through music, movements and monologues. Bach’s Second Cello Suite has been re-arranged for 6 violins in order to manifest a fuller scope of grandeur. Karl Kramer’s original “response pieces” are interjected, accompanied by two dancers – thus pointing both backward to the Suite’s origins in baroque formal dances and forward to a place of pure expression for expression’s sake. In the second half of the program, Ysaÿe’s Second Solo Sonata for Violin is presented in a version for 6 violins that allow the structure and rhythmic intensity of the piece to take the foreground. Each movement is preceded by a monologue where the artist foreshadows the mood of the music, progressing through gentle musings, deep sadness, paranoia, and finally manic rage.

Please note that this performance will be presented at the Tank's in-person performance space at 312 W 36th St. All attendees and artists will be required to have a covid vaccination before being admitted to the space. Patrons will also be required to wear masks, when not eating or drinking.
