“Estuary” - a body of water where the tide meets the stream - can be a healing image of grief: An intense collision between the salty tidal waves of sorrow and the healing waters of fresh life. Dive into a flow of music, movement and storytelling with dance theater artist Hannah Louise Barnard & violinist Allison Dubinski, as they seek to alchemize their experiences as queer women through the power of humor, beauty, ritual, and lots of fun outfits.

Hannah Louise Barnard, Dance/Theater
Hannah Louise Barnard is an NYC-based dancer/choreographer, musician and arts educator. Her choreography has been presented in the United States, England and Australia. In 2014, she received a commission to choreograph The Rhizome Project. She has collaborated with Contemporary Classical and Jazz composers, and has performed her choreography at the NYPL for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center with the musicians of Chamber16. Hannah toured South Australia with the Artists By Any Other Name collective in 2017, and has appeared onstage with the Chocolate Dances Company, Aimee Plauche & Performers, and Dancify That! She served as founder and director of Sanctuary, a multimedia collective, from 2016-2018 and as resident choreographer & co-director for the Dance in Jazz program at Saint Peter's Church (Midtown) from 2013-2019. Hannah has been an active member of Not So Churchy, a queer worshipping community, since 2015; Her participation has included leading creative movement workshops and taking vocal composition workshops. She recently completed a choreographic residency at LaRoche University (Pittsburgh, PA) and a choreographic collaboration with AMERINDA, a theater company empowering Native American artists. Current projects include a multicultural dance production honoring Ghandi (directed by her Bharatanatyam teacher) and creating a collaborative dance film set in Prospect Park.

Allison Dubinski, Violin
After being inspired by a peer playing “Jingle Bells” at a holiday recital, 5-year old Allison immediately demanded a violin from her percussionist father and could frequently be found following her older brother around their childhood home in Indiana playing “Hot Cross Buns” for him. Allison earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance and Psychology from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana where she studied with Professor Larry Shapiro. She was also concertmaster and soloist for the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Stanley DeRusha. After graduating, Allison moved to New Jersey  to become a 3rd grade teacher in Newark and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Social Work from New York University and currently works as a school-based social worker in New York City. She is a Concertmaster for the String Orchestra of Brooklyn and has played with ensembles all over the city including the Greenwich Village Orchestra, Grace Chorale, SORA Quartet, and more. She could go on about all the many places and people she has been fortunate to make music with during her past decade in New York City, but what she really wants you to know is that she is honored to share her art with you and invites you to talk to her about ways you and her can eat snacks and make art together.

*This play contains discussion of sensitive topics, including mentions of suicidal ideation and descriptions of religious trauma
