Description

The Proposal meets the actual U.S. immigration system in this romcom pilot written by Deniz Çam. In less than an hour, you'll be a guaranteed expert in what letter stands for which visa AND dating in New York City. Two birds with one stone!

Welcome to the origin story of a Turkish immigrant who has to get married in 60 days to keep her visa status upon rage-quitting her journalism job.

Creative Team

Deniz Çam
Deniz Çam is a New York-based creator, writer and producer. Formerly at Forbes Magazine, she shifted from journalism to TV production after six years as a reporter. She's currently a producer at The Problem with Jon Stewart. Outside of work hours, you can find her working on scripts, novels, personal essays, and larger stories about being a Turkish immigrant in New York. She also performs at the Off-off-Broadway theatre, The Tank.

Henrik Blix
Henrik Blix is a writer for The Problem with Jon Stewart on AppleTV+. He previously starred in Second City's Deck The Hallmark Holiday show, and performed in "Best of the Second City" at the Kennedy Center with Rachel Dratch and John Glaser. He's a two-time winner of Chicago's Laugh Battle as a solo performer, a former Headline Contributor for The Onion, and he makes very good bolognese. You can follow him online @henrikontheweb or in real life if you are stealthy and have a good disguise.

Alyssa Briddes
Alyssa Briddes is a writer/film person in NYC. Her work can be seen on TruTV, Apple TV+, ABC and more. Her interests include bagels and smutty fanfiction.

Derya Celikkol
Derya Celikkol is a Turkish actor/director/production designer based in Brooklyn. Her theatrical acting credits include Aliens Make Thanksgiving Dinner (Rattlestick), Unmaking Toulouse-Lautrec (Bated Breath) and in film: Daria the Great (Best Actress Award at Lionshead FF) and Fairytale of New York (theatrical release in Turkey). She is an alien with extraordinary ability & loves to give voice to immigrant stories.

Ava Langford

Maria Randazzo
Maria Randazzo is a writer for the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ original series, The Problem with Jon Stewart. She's a contributor for Reductress and you can see her performing sketch, improv, and stand-up around New York City. She's also the host of "Hey Dad," a podcast with her dad where they argue about things like whether or not chicken is considered meat. Maria is an alumnus of The Second City Touring Company, and she wrote and performed in Second City original revues in which The Chicago Tribune called her a "very notable up-and-comer." Sarp Kerem Yavuz
Sarp Kerem Yavuz is an award-winning French-Turkish photography artist and writer based in NYC. Born in Paris in 1991 and raised in Istanbul, his works deal with representations of masculinity, orientalism, politics, religion, and most recently, artificial intelligence. He also writes about technology's impact on the contemporary art world for The Art Newspaper and GQ Magazine.

Orli Matlow
Orli Matlow is a comedian and writer. She is a Creative Consultant on SundanceTV’s Indefensible with Jena Friedman, streaming now on AMC+. Orli has written for Adult Swim, McSweeney’s, and Reductress, and can be seen on Amazon Prime Sports Talk’s comedy and sports show, Game Breakers. She has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Women in Comedy Festival, and for many a synagogue on Zoom.

Emi Lirman
Emilia (Emi) Lirman is an Argentinian American director and performer based in NYC. She is a member of Roundabout Directors Group Cohort 3 and her work has most recently been seen at the cell theater and Latiné Musical Theater Lab.

*Please note that this performance will be presented at the Tank's in-person performance space at 312 W 36th St. All attendees and artists will be required to display proof of two doses of an approved covid vaccination before being admitted to the space. Patrons will also be required to wear masks while indoors at all times.
