DIRT (Sour Milk)

January 22, 2026 - February 15, 2026

What if one day you woke up and the East River had vanished, leaving behind a new plot of land ripe for development?

DIRT, created by SOUR MILK (TRAFFIC, FEAST), is an interactive theatre piece that invites audiences to reimagine New York City after the sudden disappearance of the East River. Participants take on characters, campaign to become mayor, and decide how to develop a new plot of land that’s emerged from the riverbed. The show’s world is built in real time—on a base of fifteen pounds of pudding—using food products as the building materials in this collaborative act of urban planning, electioneering, and play.

Experience DIRT at The Tank this January—where every vote counts, and your city is made of snacks.

“We watched as apple slices became residential space, cookies turned into commercial zoning, and vegetables represented manufacturing. Public housing was erected with graham crackers. Streetlights were cheese balls on toothpicks. Despite this whimsical landscape, the show asks some big questions about the city and the decisions that make it what it is, for better and worse.”
