Set in Vermont in 1991, 25-year-old famous linguist Nicolet Diana is trapped in her apartment on house arrest for a crime she didn't commit. Her ex-girlfriend, Magdalena Lourdes, works at the police department as a wellness specialist and is tasked to visit Nicolet and give her food when her anklet reports that she doesn't leave to get groceries. In her time in isolation, Nicolet becomes convinced that somebody is sending her a message through the word of the day segment in the daily newspaper. At first, Magdalena is skeptical, but Nicolet convinces her to help her deepen the delusion.
