Dave Hall, the singer/composer that the New York Times hailed as “a folk-pop artist of considerable lyrical clout,” is now turning his talents toward chamber music. A conservatory-trained composer, Hall is best known for his work as a singer/ songwriter and composer of music and lyrics for theater, but in recent years he has been composing song cycles for small chamber ensembles. In 2012 he premiered “Songs of Boyhood,” a 12-song cycle for voice and string quartet and this past summer he preformed his cycle “Songs of Brooklyn,” for voice, piano and cello. Now, drawing upon his classical training, his pop resume and his Middle Eastern heritage, Hall will premiere his newest work “Darkened City,” scored for voice, strings, electric guitar and Middle Eastern percussion. “Darkened City” is a poetic look at New York in the second decade of the 21st century.
