Magical Negro Speaks is a new monthly comedy variety show starring comedian and storyteller Jamil Ellis. Through monologues, sketches, stories, and song he gives voice to one of Hollywood and television's favorite tropes, the Magical Negro. Along the way he gives some personal insight into our internet obsessions based on his fifteen years of experience as a web developer.

Magical Negro will always has a Magical guest.

about the artists:

Jamil Ellis has over 15 years of experience bringing creative work to life online, on stage, on paper, and on the big and small screen. Jamil is a founding member of NYC based comedy troupe, Etc… . Etc… has performed all over New York City for the past 18 years. The group was founded by six Stuyvesant High School students in 1994, and has written and starred in dozens of shows and videos since. Since its inception, the troupe conceived and performed two critically acclaimed runs at the New York Fringe Festival, created several web series for ABC Family, and created general improv and sketch comedy havoc at venues around NYC. Etc has been profiled in Daily Variety, Metro New York, Gawker and The New York Post. Etc has also produced a slew of viral video hits for other performers including Billy Eichner’s Forest Hills State of Mind.

Jamil is a lifelong New Yorker. He currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife Larissa and works at HBO as a Technical lead for their website. As of now, he knows no spoilers for the current season of Game of Thrones and wouldn’t share them if he did.
