GANYMEDE REVISITED is a meditation on queer sexual power: past, present and future conceived and written by Frank J. Avella and presented with Ashley Garrett. Through this unique virtual incarnation, via CyberTank, we hope to create 3 separate iterations.
The plays:
CATAMITUS is ripped from today’s headlines and examines the damaging and damaged relationship between a film titan accused of sexual misconduct and one of his victims. And how their messy entanglement has completely fucked up the young actor.
GANYMEDE (the Trojan boy from Greek mythology whom Zeus fell in love with) flashes back to ancient Rome and explores the rumored relationship between Caesar and his nephew Octavius (who would go on to be the first Emperor of Rome, Augustus) and how Octavius manipulates Caesar to get what he wants but, also, how a deep love between the two existed and blossomed; a different power dynamic for certain.
Finally, in GAIA (ancestral mother of life) we flash forward to a (utopian?) future where women are navigating and running civilization (without any men in power or even present). The “power” is now in the hands of the matriarchy and there’s a different kind of misconduct afoot.
